When
asked what her most interesting Miss Chatt memory was, Cecelia
said, "The very strong smell of chlorinated water! In 1955, the
contestants used the women's bath house at Langdale swimming
pool for their changing room. It was dark and I am sure there
were puddles of water on the floor from earlier in the day and I
was trying not to let my swim suit drag through the water as I
was putting it on. My mother had borrowed the suit from a friend
of hers so I especially didn't want to soil it. My family did
not have the $30 or so that Rose Marie Reed swimsuits cost in
those days (and that was the swimsuit that made your figure the
most hourglass. You didn't really swim in them! I was also very
anxious about the "V" runway out into the water as I could just
see myself walking right off it into the water. I recall this
hit me so funny that instead of smiling at the judges, I
laughed."
