Haley's platform: W.O.N. Day

W.O.N. DAY is a tangible experience for young children
in need of small, immediate wish granting opportunities due to special
circumstances or health related issues in their life that propels the
need for uplifting and positive reinforcement. These “wishing
opportunities” can range from being crowned “Queen for the Day”; an
opportunity to partake in a treasure hunt; spending the day on the beach
and even meeting our governor…. The list goes on and so do the
opportunities needed for children who are experiencing struggles with
their health and well- being.
Children love to be recognized and rewarded. In many cases, it is not
the dollar amount associated with the award but the tangible one on one
experience that accompanies. I am currently a child life specialist
major at Auburn University and I plan to combine my love of children
along with my chosen career path to make realistic immediate Wishing
Opportunities come true for children who may need a way to escape their
fears and anxieties accompanied by hospital stays, upcoming surgeries
and even critical diagnosis. My plan is to partner with civic
organizations, colleges, schools, The Children’s Miracle Network, other
Alabama hospitals and many other resources to identify kids to grant
wishing opportunities for tangible positive experiences. If you would
like to help me on my mission, you may contact me @ wondayates@gmail.com
and we can partner to grant W.O.N. Day for deserving young children
throughout our communities.
